"Freedom is not Free" -US Dept of War
Something I wrote long ago, slightly edited to make paragraphs smaller:
=========================
Some of the Principles of Large Scale Social Slavery.
Partial List of Rules for keeping a population enslaved:
Prime Strategy:
To Conquer, Divide, To Keep Conquered, Keep Divided
(Call it 'government', 'corporations', 'special interests', 'religions', 'nations', 'ethnic groups', 'races', 'economics', and many more)
If applied with enough distracting interrelated synergistic control systems, the enslaved population can be any size whatsoever. An effective slave system will be taken for granted by the slaves, and their slavery not even noticed.
(Desired Result of Prime Strategy) To cause slaves to conclude everything is unchangeable and anything they hear is unbelievable... Make slaves fear each other and fear cooperating in any way outside the control systems... Make sure the slaves intrinsically blame each other cynically for everything that happens.
(Call it 'human nature' and make sure all believe it of others)
Keep the slave population totally occupied attaining the right to live. Make them base their self-worth on slaving, so they will hate anyone who does not slave away their lives. Have the very definition of a good life be slaving, and have any failure to prosper from slaving always be considered the fault of the slave, not the system.
Also, no slave is as enthusiastically enslaved or works harder, even at makework, than a slave who is convinced he or she is free.
(Call it 'work' or 'employment' and for the smart ones, call it 'professions' and let them have attitudes and specialties, so they will believe nothing but 'approved' information.)
Concentrate the slave's minds on a system of 'permission' symbols which give access to life support and goods to make their lives fractionally easier. Allow more freedom for more symbols, so slaves will seek it ever harder and give up all human decency to attain it. Have the acquisition of the symbols be the very definition of 'practical' so the system will define all activity and prevent all actions not included in the system.
Let slaves who cannot acquire the symbols die in horrible conditions of starvation, lack of sanitary conditions, diseases, lack of shelter, and make sure they are considered unworthy of life by most slaves. Sacrificing a few slaves to horrible torturous deaths has long proven to scare the rest into non-thinking obedience to the system.
(Call it 'money' and make them think what they get using it is 'theirs'.)
Force all slaves to use it whenever they cooperate in any way, as long as they give back some of the symbols each time, to support the illusion that the system is supported by the slaves.
(Call it 'taxes')
Be sure to make them believe that the symbols are theirs by virtue of their work.
Control the worth of the symbols and the availability so as to force the slaves into doing what you want without having to use direct force.
(Call it 'interest rates', 'government contracts', and 'pay')
Keep the symbols scarce, so they have to continuously work harder and harder to get tiny quantities of technologically easily made goods, and they will never notice that what they get is the tiniest of leftovers from what is taken from them...
(Call it all 'economics')
Bombard the slaves, and especially their children, with enticements to keep them motivated to consume more, and include social messages within each enticement, so they will think they are less than others in wealth.
(Call it 'advertising')
Concentrate all acts of violence and aberrant behavior as if they occur nearby, so as to keep them both fearful and cynical, convinced that 'human nature' is evil and dysfunctional everywhere, so they will never work together outside control systems.
(Call it 'news media')
Keep continuous mass shows, some silly, some sillier, and some extreme competitions to provide relief from the pressure of attaining the right to live, producing an effect worse than drugs.
(Call them 'sitcoms' and 'sports' and 'reality shows')
For every word of truth that escapes or is generated by malcontent slaves, make sure a million slightly different versions are circulated, some pro, some con. For convincing the slaves that a lie is true, place the same story out to all slaves over and over again. This will also make sure that anything that happens but is not in an 'official' story is disregarded as a non-event.
(Call it 'the media')
Divide the world up into turfs, with the enslaved populations identifying with their turf symbols, and keep an organized subculture of brainwashed fanatics for each turf, and fight them with each other as a lesson to all the slaves, to keep them in fear.
(Call the symbols 'flags' and the subculture the 'military')
Use the subculture against the turf population if control starts to slip.
Create a document each turf population will worship even if it is just words on paper.
(Call it a 'constitution')
Let them believe the document defines the rules of the 'turf', when actually it defines only their social beliefs. Cause ideological conflict between those who hold different interpretations of the document, following the Prime Strategy.
Provide an illusion of control, through a fake selection of rulers.
(Call them 'elections' and 'candidates')
Make sure a few 'Turfs' have the appearance of old style slavery, using mass murder and rule by whim by figurehead leaders, to make the slaves in turfs with fake selection of rulers appreciate the illusion of control.
Tell the Slaves that the rules make them free and that they choose them.
(Call them 'laws' and violently suppress anyone who breaks them. It's a good way to keep those who see through this process down and keep order for better control.)
In the minds of the slaves, equate the revolutionary, the violent criminal, the non-violent criminal, and the poorest of the population, so the majority of the slaves will consider them all the same threat.
Create a huge bureaucracy that proclaims to speak for God, and the slaves will follow orders and work hard even if they kill themselves in the process.
(Call it 'religion'.)
Make those slaves who reject the various God bureaucracies believe that what they think generates Universe, that their egos are the center of Universe, for then the slaves can only blame themselves, will never cooperate to change anything, and thereby never DO anything outside the control systems.
(Call it 'spirituality' or 'atheism'.)
Humanity must find it's natural way of living and loving, of organizing together for mutual support, in the expression of real human values. The idolatry of symbols and power must end!
As one of the greatest teachers in history stated;
"Ye shall know them by their love."
Some Other Thoughts:
If anything can be believed in, why believe in anything? Why hold on to conceptual fantasies when we walk around in a world so wondrous and beautiful that no amount of words, thoughts, or images can fully describe even a tiny portion of it.
The observation that 'I think, therefore I am' which is the most basic axiom of Western Civilization, is only a minor subset of the real most basic observation of life, that is 'All that is, IS'. The FORMER merely inflates the ego, declaring it supreme, and makes for concepts which destroy or despoil the world, while the LATTER, as the most basic of axioms, makes for a mind of inquiry, holding the ego secondary, and which makes for a 'benchmark' of what works and what doesn't that allows actions without destruction, true awareness of the worth of compassion, and adaptation without despoliation.
To consider ecological and cultural sanity impractical is the most extreme and subtle of insanities, yet it is the very basis of all existing subcultures on this planet. It is why conditions get worse despite all the efforts of groups and individuals who see the destruction of the environment and the tragic unnecessary sacrifice of human life and potential to poverty and ignorance.
Global social and environmental problems result not purely from individual actions... Nor will the problems be solved by any individual alone... The problems result from large scale individual actions within the axiomatic confines of social convention. To solve this problem, more and more people have to think 'outside the lines' of these social axioms and algorithms and work together to change those axioms and algorithms through group example.
Luckily, it does not take a high percentage of humanity to make a great difference, only a tiny fraction. But it is significant that there is no way to cause change through existing social outlets... they are designed to give the illusion of being a means of change, and yet not effect or alter the ongoing irrational processes of decision making whatsoever. Most of them do not realize these limitations, and would deny the existence of any limitations.
Evolution is continuing. To realize that evolution is not a process of chance but rather the intelligent actions of a planetary eco-entity that arose from biochemical and energetic processes inherent in Universe is to suddenly see that all that is going on in this world comes from ignorance of this fact. To know that conscious evolution proceeds from a synergistic consciousness made up of all the conscious beings on this planet, within a field generated by all Life on this planet, is to know that change will proceed apace and towards Global human sanity.
Knowing this gives great wisdom, and the loss of all fear, even of death, for suddenly we know we are part of something greater, which values us and which moves in our hearts and minds and in the hearts and minds of Humanity. One with all life on the planet, that life being an intelligent being, we are Evolution.
Egocentric 'spirituality' is just words. Saying 'God is love' or 'We are One.' from an ego belief is bogus unless it is preceded by the transformation of the mind through the understanding of the relationship of the ego to Universe, the realization of the Real Mind, and most of all, the compassionate actions such transformation generates. This takes great effort, for to transcend the ego is a door into sanity, and it is not done through exterior artifacts or exercises, nor through thoughts and beliefs.
Beliefs are irrelevant to the knowledge gained by the experience of dropping the ego completely and accepting the resulting perceptions. This is not a subtle phenomena, nor is it reached through any gradual 'path', but is an overwhelming, yet perfectly natural experience that lasts only moments and yet changes everything. With that experience, all doubts are lost, all fear disappears, especially of death, and all of Universe is valued to it's true measure. It causes permanent change, and that change is reflected in actions which benefit others profoundly.
This is not to say that compassion and love cannot be expressed by anyone anywhere, for the basis of our lives are our Real Mind, not our egos, and while beliefs are irrelevant to most actions taken by most people, with the ego rationalizing each action and claiming it as it's own, most of what goes on in the world is not sourced in the ego but in the Real Mind. Without this larger interaction, insane control systems would have killed off all life long ago. But despite their seeming total ubiquitous nature, the control systems are still superficial, a thin veneer over the actual dynamics of life, even human life. We but need to realize that, and get rid of the destructive corrosion.
"Work" is not what we do when we go somewhere and spend our lives following someone else's instructions doing activities that are far below our potential and which either does no good or does damage to the Planet. The Human Control system we are forced by violence to accept and which limits our existence and actions has no relationship to what is required to survive on this planet.
There is something called 'right livelihood' in Buddhism which really defines what true work is, and with an understanding of environment thrown in, Right Livelihood should guide all young people into work which will allow them to do real work in the world, work worth doing. To do work worth doing is more fulfilling in life, and better for all, than to do work which pays a lot of money, but which traps your soul into an false hell that winds down to eventual planetary death.
To live in an intentional participatory community is to live a full experience far exceeding most people's lives. The friendships, the entertainment, even the work is not much like living in the divided society most of us have experienced most of our lives. The feeling of belonging causes a security not found outside such communities, and even the problems are more interesting.
I have lived in both dysfunctional and extremely functional communities, and find that even dysfunctional communities are more interesting than living as a 'nuclear family' or alone. Dysfunctional communities don't last long, but functional communities tend to create lifelong friends. No individuality is lost, although some bad habits may fade in importance, and so much is gained, that, in my opinion, it is natural to join with others in community, and forge a future together.
AND IN RESPONSE TO ED ELKIN WHO WROTE - WHEN INTRODUCING ROAN'S NEWSLETTER TO HIS LIST:
"Note that the overall message is hopeful and positive, although it may not at
first seem so. In my initial comments back to Roan with whom I've exchanged ideas for well over a year, but never met in person, I wrote, in part,
"I'm glad that you end on a positive note..... and see a light at the end of
the tunnel.
My perception is that the "tunnel" isn't quite as black and full of demons as you portray it and that it's even possible to enjoy the journey through. Admittedly, billions of us on the planet suffer a living hell, but there are enough of us awakening to begin the transformation process toward the light. Thanks for the stimulation of sharing your truth. For me, it is far more useful to make 'energetic progress in the good' than to rail against that which I oppose.... which only feeds its destructive energy by adding to the amount of negativity on the planet."
(end of quote from Ed Elkin)
ROAN HAD THIS COMMENT:
Ed, my friend,
I used to just think and talk purely positive viewpoints. Then one day I noticed that a large number of people I knew, who also just thought and talked positive stuff DID only negative stuff and either didn't realize it or always rationalized their actions through twisting their viewpoint to make it positive... Usually they would not think about what they actually did, and blinder their perceptions to see only what their egos wanted them to see, which allowed them to do negative or apathetic actions, for some reason they did not think about either, seeing it as 'normal' or 'practical'.
I realized that positive thinking was not enough. To understand the problem is to overcome it. To understand the problem and communicate that understanding to others is a very positive thing to do, because it helps them perceive it and then overcome it. And the solutions are never just in what we think, nor what we say, but in what we do also. Positive thoughts can be literally any thoughts, about anything, and actions can be negative even if the thoughts are positive. If ego belief is the only criteria, then anything goes and the world does not change for the better.
I am not putting negativity out into the world. I am putting positive stuff into the world, because what I am putting out is a very large set of questions each has to face when reading my posts. Even if they file away my posts in their 'crazy' or 'negative' folder, they will continue on in their lives, and Life itself will keep giving them experiences which will make my filed words jump out of the folder.
Then one day it will jump up in their laps and they will have to face the transformation of their own minds. The world will then be different to them, and they will act upon that difference, and the planet will be that much closer to survivability and the love we know is it's rightful harmony. That transformation is not conceivable to the ego, but it is as real as anything that exists.
Egocentric spirituality is pretty much bogus because it will not accept responsibility for what it does, only for what it thinks. It mistakes the Real Mind with the ego, which is like mistaking a world for a tiny stone, in scale at least. This is the essence of negativity, and is worse than cynical thought because the actions resulting will be from apathy and rationalization. The cynic at least does evil because he cannot see any alternative through his cynical thought... the egocentric spiritualist can do evil while thinking it's good.
Wishful thinking is not necessarily 'positive'. To see Universe as it is, is to know what to do, to act upon the knowledge, in physical as well as mental action. It rarely has negative results, short term, and never in the long term.
Frankly, imho, egocentric spirituality is often pure fear and results in denial no better than the German people's denial and fear as they saw Jews being carted away in boxcars. More people are being killed right now than during those days, if spread across the planet instead of concentrated, and apathy, rationalized in a million conceptual ways, is still allowing that evil.
There is a difference between judgment and perception. To perceive evil is not to condone it. Evil actions and words can be perceived, acted upon, and overcome.
Judgment is only of people, of them personally, and to judge a person can be to amplify that evil they have done, or diminish it, according to what actions (words are one kind of action) are taken after the judgment. THAT is when non-judgment can have a real changing energy to it.
To perceive evil and not do something about it, magnifies that evil, and the world's negativity is made greater. The newsletter was specifically positive, even if it pointed out negative stuff, because that stuff will not change unless folks know it exists, (can think of it in a new way so they look for the possibility that it exists,) and affects them... if they do not know it exists and affects them, they have no choice about it, because they do not know it exists. As members of it, they will instead promote it, and not know they are doing that either.
This is why saving the world is not easy -- grin
Thanks for passing the newsletter on. I respect your opinion, but felt it necessary to clarify why my messages seem negative. The world is acting in negative ways, and to change that requires more than just a positive attitude. I have a positive attitude, actually an incredibly positive attitude, or I would not have continued these efforts. I know we are far more than we think we are, and know also that we are One in ways few have perceived. That most will perceive this also is a given to me, although it takes my and others efforts to do that change, and when it is a common perception, the world will change slowly into Grace.
Love,
-Roan
In other words, as said to a friend: "Calling attention to a crack in a dam is not negative, and calling attention to existing conditions is not negative if they lead to people choosing to change them. Seeing through an illusion is the only way to dissolve it, but first it is required to know it is an illusion."

Beliefs and Actions
Most of the time, what someone believes is irrelevant. They are as they are and do as they do regardless of the beliefs they have. This is especially true of organized religious groups. I have met Southern Baptists who really 'do' the ---love thy neighbor--- actions, regardless of their rigid and often hateful judgmental beliefs. I know Mormons who are also like that.
I think the bell curve applies, and the main problem with organized hierarchies of any kind is that 'power attracts the corruptible' . It's not that 'power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely' but that 'power attracts the corruptible and absolute power attracts the most corruptible' . This is why the 'powers that be', up until the hippy generation, actively sought only the most corruptible, and much of the conflict between the hippy culture and the 'establishment' came from that obvious tendency to accept only the most corruptible into hierarchies, from the kindergarten to the white house. And the main characteristic of corruptive processes is fear.
Fear allows control. The more fear built into a hierarchy, the more controlled the members. The 'technology' of control is based upon fear, and if those who fear the most, who learn to manipulate others from that fear, to use the fear of others in subtle ways to get a security for themselves, are then integrated into a hierarchy, the hierarchy stays strong and 'secure'. The oldest hierarchy on Earth is the military subculture, and it has the most rigid control hierarchies there is, down to controlling every moment of every day for every member. The common fear in each individual of every hierarchy binds the members into a single social unit, a single organism. This is why religious groups teach fear, and the fear, if one studies the actual teachings of the original teachers, like Jesus and Mohammad, one does not find teachings which promote fear. Money, government, militaries, religions, all the hierarchies which control and destroy in the world are based upon fear, even if that fear has to be instilled directly by the slaughter of innocents. This is the real reason for war, starvation, and, to some degree, even environmental destruction on a global scale.
The reason given for the slaughter of the Native Americans and their social demonizing was because they would not accept money. The tribal people took care of each other, a far more compassionate and efficient way of survival. Every treaty made by the government with the Native Americans had the use of money as it's primary concern, and the reason given for destroying them was their lack of use of money, among others.
Greed is fear. Hatred is fear. Intolerance is fear. Bigotry is fear. The reason the world is being destroyed by the hierarchies is to instill fear, because as social entities, they rely on fear to maintain their existence.
The Hippy generation, with it's lack of fear, has been the largest scare the hierarchies have had in their long history, and the Owners who control the world with those hierarchies decided to destroy the social phenomena and eliminate the hippies. To instill fear into us. And it worked pretty good.
But evolution cannot be stopped, and the institutions run by hierarchies have destroyed so much, they are threatened by their own stupid strategy, and while they try to use our fear of environmental degradation to maintain themselves, they are as threatened by it as everyone else. The same forces of evolution dissolved the Nuclear Stalemate and ended the 'cold war', because the Owners were as threatened by thermonuclear war as everyone else.
When the top of the hierarchies become afraid, they first respond with stupidity, but then, like everyone else, they also face their own conscious evolution, their own higher conscious, and that will change their behavior.
Peace,
-Roan

Say it like it is!
“This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body..."

Belief VS Fantasy
For me, if one must use the word 'Religion', then define it as what is done, and what is not done, not what is believed in or not believed in.
The heavy spiritual teachers in the history of the world mostly talked about what was to be done, not what was to be believed in.
Belief can be in anything. Observation is what it is. Remaining unattached, follow observation with response. If you cannot tell the difference, then go by what is reaction, which comes from attachment and belief, and what is response, which comes from observation.
When I was about three years old, my parents went over the border into Mexico, to a border town. There was two things which I noticed, even at that young age... everyone believed in the Catholic Church, for crosses were everywhere, in the way of Mexican religious celebration processions, and when I was given a few pesos to spend, I saw a woman sitting on a blanket surrounded by children, desperately poor, and I knew in my heart that I had to give that woman my few pesos, for her need was great.
Obviously, even to my young mind it was obvious, that belief meant the people carried symbols, sang religious songs, were pious in their belief, yet the woman's need was invisible to them, sitting hungry with her hungry children.
If people opened their hearts, rather than their beliefs, there would be little pain and tragedy in the world. As is, there remains only the sour taste of pious belief among ruin.
Throw out all beliefs, and just pay attention, and the truth will set you free.

A Change in Common Knowledge
When I was a child and then a teenager, I thought everyone lived the way I did, or at least those who lived around me in all the places I had lived in my life. I thought nothing really changed. I thought all relationships were basically the same kind of relationship I had. This doesn’t seem to have changed much among those ages, since most children and teens cannot imagine a world without cellphone and TVs and computers, etc. It’s unimaginable to most of them to think of people taking days to go from one small town to another just down the road. They can’t imagine that what takes them an hour to drive took a day for someone riding a horse.
When I became a young man, I thought things were changing into something totally new. I could see my generation questioning and behaving in ways that seemed to never have happened before. I could see the social forces of change which drew us together and threw us apart easily, in all the people in my generation. I thought we were something very new indeed.
When I was older, in my thirties, I could see that things did change, had changed, from generation to generation all through history, in every culture, despite the social structures put in place to prevent change. I could see that something altered the way people reacted, changed their perception, something subtle, yet intense. But I could not figure out what that was, although I knew from observation that it was crucial for Human survival.
When I was in my forties and early fifties, I could tell what was changing was the center of the bellcurve of reactions and attitudes. The fringes remained as extreme as ever, self-defeating knots of belief so entrenched that the individuals could not get out of those ways of thinking and acting, but the huge center of that bell curve, the masses of people, did change, in tiny increments that I could barely detect but which had profound influence on all aspects of life for everyone. I tried to understand what that was, with little success.
Then, in my late fifties, I suddenly realized that what had changed was ‘common knowledge’, the knowledge, information, experience, and even mis-information we absorb from our culture on a day to day basis. This is what changes.
For instance, I spend decades living as the only white person in a black neighborhood, and it was apparent to me that most of my neighbors were as trapped in certain attitudes as I had been as a teen. They had a ‘brotherhood’ of oppression’, which caused their ‘race’ to be the first and most important of criteria as to how to judge others. It’s not surprising, and not all black people had that attitude, but it was apparent in even the most successful black TV and movie stars.
And it was a trap, a way to keep their thinking in tight loops of self-disparagement and horrific judgment. I did a little poll once while standing in line in a community college book store. In the long line of people waiting to buy their textbooks were people of all ages and ‘races’ and religions.
I went up to each and asked “When someone approaches you, walking down the hallways, what do you notice first about that person?”
All the people who were white, oriental, or foreign replied they looked at the wealth of other person’s clothes and the attitude shown by their walk, and how likely they would be to turn violent or abusive. Inotherwords, was the approaching person a threat of any kind?
The several black people in the line independently replied, ‘I notice first what race they are’.
When I announced to the line my results to the same people still waiting for the store’s computers to start working again, the blacks were all totally surprised. They could not imagine that anyone would see ‘race’ as not being the most important factor in their brief assessment of the approaching person.
That’s when I realized why so many blacks think everyone not black is automatically prejudice, if only a little bit. If in their ‘common knowledge’ their ‘race’ was the most important of all data, and their personal and social status was determinate upon their ‘race’, then the idea that people might not see ‘race’ as high priority data would be almost unthinkable.
But now we have a black president.
For those who identify with their ‘race’ as the most important of all data, this must be a breakthrough. For the first time, they have living proof that those who say they are not prejudice against blacks, and don’t even particularly notice the color of someone’s skin, are actually telling the truth.
This is a big growth step in America and the world’s ‘common knowledge’ bell curve.

The Survivable Path
Here's what has to happen to bring about
the kind of world that could actually fit
the basic concept of 'SANITY'
which is almost a synonym of 'SURVIVABILITY'.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Certain basic concepts and social structures have to fade away. (Not be conquered, not be forced, not be redirected, but actually fade away without opposition through individuals changing their minds and actions, en mass.)
There are four strategies which can bring Survivablity about.
Each is a basic of our culture which has to be turned on it's head, or the current practices will become the forces which destroy us all.
Nations... Not to be replaced by a traditional global government, the practice of delegating, or being forced by violence and threat to delegate, the individual's power to a 'official' group of people must end.
Military... The ancient and highly organized subculture of gangsters calling themselves the Military has to dissolve completely.
Economics... The use of symbols and an irrelevant and spurious evaluation of everything in terms of those conceptually rootless symbols has to end. The concept of 'exchange' between individuals is a falsehood which humanity cannot sustain in the long run. Everything comes from the ecosystem of this planet, including humans. The 'worth' of everything is a function of it's existance, and not something which has worth only in terms of human conceptuality and use.
Advertising and Entertainment... in terms of psychological manipulation, must end.
The all pervading socially promoted but actually insubstantial concepts of 'Rights' must evolve into something balanced with the perception of the ecosystem as the basic support system for all life on the planet. The concept of 'property' must fade into a use basis rather than an absolute 'right'. Without this change in the concepts of 'Rights', all other changes, of any kind, will be futile and eventually, as the ecosystem fails, humanity will become extinct.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All changes must come from the evolving perceptions and actions of the individual, however, and not forced through any violence or threat of violence. This is required or the results will not fulfill the requirements of a survive-able future.
Only a good means will create a good result.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Delegation of individual power to all heirarchies and institutions like governments, militaries, corporations, and organized churches is First of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
The solution to the problem of social control is the development and use, en mass, of geodesic democracy.
Only humanity as a whole can make the kinds of decisions necessary to save this ecosystem, not a few handfuls of egocentric, greedy, power hungry morons with enough money and lying silver tongues to get mindblinded followers to support them. With real democracy, geodesic democracy, we can run the world without all the stupidity!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second, the development and use of geometrically manufactured comprehensively designed livingry, the technology of living, on massive scales.
The current concepts of totally blind expedient manufacturing has such waste built in, messes up the environment so badly by not factoring it in, and holds back so much development of environmentally intelligent technology, (not to mention the total waste... no, the antilife technology called 'weaponry',) that amid plenty, millions starve and a billion goes without basic survival requirements... and they are not starving because it is some act of God, but because the people in power either deliberately plan for their deaths or don't give a shit, and drive the conditions which kill all those people, all the while killing the ecosystem at the same time. The ultimate 'RIGHT' is the right to live on the planet and get what we need from it to do so! Technology (like food, water, air, and our lives themselves,) comes from Nature FREE, and can provide for everyone freely WITHOUT DESTROYING THE ECOLOGY OF OUR WORLD!
The misuse of Nature-derived technology is the Second Horseman of the Apocalypse...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Third, the development and use of educational strategies which teach the actual relationship of humans to the ecosystem and each other.
The spurious superstition taught by the academic subculture, stranded in it's intellectual masturbation based upon thought as the supreme seat of existence is just plain stupid. Universe is the supreme seat of existence, and the clinging to ego centered concepts of separate realities, or chaos beyond ego, leads only to spurious assumptions which led to the current global situation. It's not an accident that every meeting of people who claim the delegated power to make decisions about everyone else's lives are all taught within the same subculture, taught the same superstitions, and cling to the same cause/effect processes which are destroying the planet. Hell, the leaders of the world are all products of the same subculture, with the same limits to thought and totally impractical concepts of 'practicality'. The chambers of power are seas of 'suits' and while not all who wear suits are mindblinded by the subculture, those who are admitted into power wear those suits as uniforms of insanity. The future of Humanity must not remain in the hands of those who only repeat the stupidity of the past!
This subculturally taught body of mixed superstition and knowledge is the Third Horseman of the Apocalypse.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And what is the fourth Horseman?
He is the common, deliberately socially created, concept of division between people that convinces people that despite the obvious connection in all ways between us, we are totally separate and all power resides purely within each one of us. It ignores the easily observable fact that everything, including our individual power, is useful only in synergy, not as illusionary separate individuals. If this 'division paradigm' continues to be the most basic axiom of human behavior, the result will be eventual dissolution of the ecosystem and therefore, humanity itself. It must become commonly understood that the difference between the individual and the social group is scalar, not in competition, that while being unique individuals, we are still One, and require each other to survive. The differences are natural and must be respected on all scales!
This --socially amplified to the Nth degree-- illusion of being separate from each other and the ecology of the planet is the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are all One.
Like it or not! Face it or know your children and grandchildren and great grandchildren unto all the future could die or never exist because you choose to ignore it. I am not calling on your guilt or fear, I am calling upon your help, for I would not say this if I did not see a truely massive amount of data supporting this conclusion! But I believe Humanity's direction can be changed. I have great respect for the common people on this world.

A Reasonable and Needed Declaration
UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RESPONSIBILITY
A draft presented in the UN Department of Public Information for consideration and possible promotion
PREAMBLE
Whereas recognition of the dignity inherent in all members of the human community, in addition to their equal and inalienable rights being the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world, should also include recognition of citizen responsibility for other people;
Whereas irresponsibility of many people including politicians, military and industry managers has led to the new reality of XX-XXI centuries, the threat of an all-civilization collapse, as a result of which the human race may cease to exist;
Whereas in the globalizing world the interdependence of people has grown, and irresponsibility of some turns into lawlessness or limitation of rights of many others;
Whereas acts of irresponsibility on any level are in disparity with the wish of overwhelming majority of people, who intend to live in more orderly and more predictable countries;
Whereas creation of the world, where people have freedom of speech and opinion and are free of fear and want, proclaimed in Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the lofty intention of people, will come closer to its fruition if responsibilities of each human will grow to include responsibilities at levels higher than just family, job, or contractual obligations;
Whereas in the society where socially responsible persons prevail, it is impossible for state power to degrade into a dictatorship, and people do not have to resort to insurrection as their last chance against tyranny and oppression;
Whereas friendly relations between nations at interpersonal and inter-state levels are becoming a natural norm of relations, in which neglecting one’s duties and obligations is a very rare exception;
Whereas in any community where sense of responsibility is expression of human dignity and good, the observance of human rights develops into a habit and opens wider horizons for social self-realization of a person;
Whereas peoples of the United Nations have to see in this Document their faith in fundamental human principles, in the dignity and worth of the socially responsible human persons being able to provide better standards of life for all;
Whereas the United Nations has sufficient authority in the world to achieve success in the promotion of universal respect for observance of human responsibilities and duties;
Whereas Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by heads of state 60 years ago has shown the importance of a similar Charter as the common human document for all the world, for better life of people;
Whereas the state level of responsibility being recommended by Member States as a governing principle in the world, will be an essential factor for development of friendly relations between nations;
Whereas both disregard and contempt for human rights resulting in barbaric acts which insult the consciousness of Humankind, in any degree is explained by that people-to-people responsibilities have not been an issue of world’s concern, have not been laid forth in an international document of Universal Declaration rank and have not entered social consciousness;
Whereas comprehension of comprehensive character of responsibility at all levels is of huge importance for the fortunes of the world,
Now, therefore THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RESPONSIBILITY as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, will strive by teaching and education to promote respect for and observance of human responsibilities and duties and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance.
Article 1.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights claimed “Everyone has the right to life” as one of the main rights. For the first time in human history, all of Humankind may be deprived of this right. That is why human behaviour should be determined by such a factor as responsibility of worldwide scale or “planetary responsibility.”
Article 2.
1. The idea of planetary responsibility, correlating with the rights and usual responsibilities and duties, must spread among people not only because it is a necessary condition to minimize and overcome numerous threats which have hung over Humankind, but also because it has the potential to unite and appease Humankind.
2. A human individual realizing his planetary responsibility, correlating himself/herself with the fortunes of the world, grows up as a person, moves into new spaces of thought, acquires better psychological stability.
Article 3.
1. Everyone has responsibilities and duties to the society. In a society of socially responsible persons, human rights are observed and a person is best equipped for personal self-realization.
2. Everyone has the right to select and take on himself/herself that kind/level of responsibility/duty which is acceptable for him/her, measuring against his abilities and aptitudes, to better correspond to it, not to have the reputation of an irresponsible person.
Article 4.
1. One’s responsibility to people should not permit him/her to hold whoever in slavery; slavery and slave trade should be prohibited in all their forms as being in contradiction both with human rights, on the one hand, and human responsibility, on the other hand.
2. One’s responsibility to people should prevent him/her from torturing or other cruel, inhuman treatment or punishment as degrading human dignity, including the dignity of those who perform such acts.
Article 5.
State and municipal organs recognizing the right of everyone to be an entity before the law, should recognize as well the right of everyone to bring action against those organs’ officials who have acted irresponsibly.
Article 6.
Judicial organs pleading a cause have a special responsibility to do all possible in the framework of the law to provide equal rights for those who appear before the court: to judge them without any discrimination, to give equal protection of the law. No one in order of prosecution may be subject to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.
Article 7.
The family as the natural and fundamental unit of society should accept domestic responsibility as factor of its stability and hopefulness. One may expect from officials, not burdened with domestic problems to be more responsible in their public service.
Article 8.
1. The right to freedom of peaceful assembly and associations should be augmented by responsibility of those in charge of them.
2. High responsibility should be characteristic of those politicians who seek leadership or are already vested in with power.
Article 9.
Pedagogues of all levels, from kindergarten to high school, giving knowledge in subjects to their kids, pupils and students and inculcating in them ability to think, should not forget their responsibility to bring up socially responsible persons, those who are about to enter adult life.
Article 10.
Responsibility of planetary scale applies in the first place to those who have levers of influence on many people’s lives:
1. State leaders, politicians, public figures, military:
Planetary responsibility rules out laying and pursuing of selfish and nationalistic goals and tasks, especially those which allow military methods of their accomplishment; national goals, tasks and actions should be correlated with common human interests and civilization security.
2. Intellectuals, analysts, methodologists and other brainworking people:
Having realized their responsibility to both the people living and of next generations they work for the creation of Strategy of secure sustainable development in harmonious symbiosis with Nature as a common, the most significance their affair, at that as the matter being urgent. For that they will be made overcome their disconnection (explained by mainly individual character of creative work), elaborate effective regalements of problem-resolving, partake in new educational strategy’s elaboration having the goal to teach creative activity in different areas as a standard of the life.
3. Educational sphere’s workers:
Their responsibility is especially hard executed as they are needed to give their kids, pupils and students in any sense more than they have themselves. Having used achievements of sciences on the human and having understood why the human mentality doesn’t cope with global problems, they will have to elaborate the 3rd Millennium level methodology and techniques of teaching, being adequate to challenges of the civilization and opening prospective of humankind’s progressive development.
4. Ecologists, biologists, workers of material production sphere:
Human striving people for better life, i.e., in particular, for higher level of the consumption, is in conflict with possibilities of Nature to assimilate and re-make waste. Ecological imperative stays the task to organize all-planetary ecological monitoring and Strategy of Co-Evolution of Humankind and Nature, proved and correlated after the situation. The Strategy, being elaborated for production workers and ecological inspectorate up concrete requests of the ecological imperative, would outline their spheres of responsibility.
5. Belletrists and artistic actors:
In worried conditions when the question hangs over «to be or not to be», thoughtless and completely entertaining fiction and art, especially if there are finding a place for aesthetics of ugly and vulgar, are perceived as a kind of irresponsibility of creators, producers and investors. Adequate and proved value-containing orientation of creative people, taking into account their planetary responsibility, may help him to create artistic works being able to influence beneficially on moral climate of the society.
6. Those who are working with information and its technical providing:
Problems of common human scale need adequate information servicing, with scientific and technical conveying. Such problems is, for example, how to organize all-wide forum «To Happy Life on the Earth», or a forum-resource to proceed express-referendums on common human problems, in separated time, in all the countries of the world.
Workers of media and advertising as having the most massive influence on the society should to elaborate for them the sense of responsibility for clearness of inter-human space, what is direct to do with moral climate of the society.

Education is a Human Right. Let's do it!
There are (at least) three sources for most people's worldviews in the world.
One is what is absorbed from parents and others as small children, which forms the basic personality and opinions of people on the deepest unconscious levels of the mind.
Another is education, which is controlled by a subculture I call 'academia' which has it's own agenda and control algorithms which limit the mind of the individual who has spent massive amounts of time in that subculture. But this is not necessarily the strongest force holding humanity in mental thrall.
Lastly, there is what I call, 'common knowledge'. Common knowledge is the bulk of the data which most people run their minds with, and when it changes, everything changes. It evolves human society regardless of both the unconscious childhood absorption of bad data and the academic subculture. It is absorbed by people on another level, and changes people's viewpoints profoundly. While the GIGO (garbage in/garbage out)of common knowledge allows much of the worse behavior in our world, it evolves as enough people change or absorb better data into the 'common knowledge', and it's little brother, which we call 'fads', causes change in mass numbers of people very quickly indeed although such changes don't last long. All 'isms' seek to change 'common knowledge', all capitalists try to get their products into 'common knowledge', and politicians seek to manipulate 'common knowledge' through propaganda and campaign ads.
When something is promoted that would benefit all the people, all the masses, it becomes unstoppable when it becomes common knowledge, and over time, it will be implemented. It is the way that people sidestep the manipulations of politicians, capitalists, religious fanatics, etc, and bring something new and better into our cultures.
When I got this email from a long time friend of mine, an active promoter of human rights and freedoms, I decided to promote it. There may be a sliver of time here where such efforts can bare fruit, if only to get the idea into the 'common knowledge'.
I am forwarding this request to all the groups I am a member of. I
think this approach is reasonable at this time. Thomas is an old time
(30 year) friend of mine and a promoter of human freedom.

Hey,
I wanted to see if I could get your quick help. I'm not sure if you've
heard, but there's a movement of citizens inspired by the presidential
campaign who are now submitting ideas for how they think the Obama
Administration should change America. It's called "Ideas for Change in
America."
I've submitted an idea and wanted to see if you could quickly vote for
it. The title is: Education- A Human Right. You can read and vote for
the idea by clicking on the following link:
http://www.change. org/ideas/ view/education- _a_human_ right
The top 10 ideas are going to be presented to the Obama Administration
on Inauguration Day and will be supported by a national lobbying
campaign run by Change.org, MySpace, and more than a dozen leading
nonprofits after the Inauguration. So each idea has a real chance at
becoming policy.
Thanks for the support,
Thomas

The Map is not the Terrain
Most of my blog entries come from conversations I am in where the message I write seems particularly clear to me. I don't usually post the other people's messages unless I have their agreement, although I sometimes paraphrase them to give the reader some idea what I am speaking in response to. This is a response to a discussion on 'Firstprinciplesgroup' on Yahoo.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree somewhat, but the map is not the terrain. A belief, any
belief, is not the same as pure experience. Science finds that out
daily, and scientists, most of them, do go on experience first, maps
last.
If a map be vague enough, purely symbolic with many concepts which
relate to nothing experienced, and a person clings to the map's
'truth', then they stumble over and over again. If they cast away the
map and simply adapt to their experiences, they discover and can cope
with each new experience without limitations that exist only on their map.
Reality is so much more than any conceptual map can contain, having
one can be more of a handicap in survival than an asset.
In communicating with words, we pass maps, filled with symbols which
may or may not have the same meanings. If I say, "My toe hurts." then
the person I am speaking to must have had the experience of their toe
hurting to relate that statement to, or they cannot understand the
statement. They then try to fit other pains they have experienced to
that statement, gaining some meaning from it. But if they have no
toes, or have never had pain, they are as a birth blind person
listening to descriptions of color. All languages are conceptual, even
math, and only the experience from experiments can clean the GIGO
(garbage in/garbage out) out of math produced maps.
The greatest, ultimate, complete experience a human can have cannot be
described in words at all. This is the meaning of "Those who know
don't say, and those who say don't know." It can only be pointed at.
A conceptual map, a 'belief system', a communicated 'understanding'
cannot give actual knowledge of anything, because only experience can
give knowledge of Truth. At best, a conceptual map, a 'belief system',
or a communicated 'understanding' can only point to the experience, so
the person can know it exists, at least in the map of the speaker.
Concepts in their essence, can have no truth within them, and since
the imagination can produce vast cosmologies with concepts, anything
can come from maps made from concepts.
Fortunately, what people do is often totally different than the maps
they tell others they go by. What they do counts, what they believe is
almost irrelevant, having almost nothing to do with their actions.
All the conceptual creations, at best, are like having a map of one
square inch of New York City. The individual who has the map thinks
all of the city is just on that map, and even if that map is 100%
accurate, the city a foot away can be so different than the map, it
makes using the map purely futile, and even produce bad, even horrible
results.
The world is full of one inch conceptual maps, and the result is the
extrapolation of the greater world from those one inch maps, and great
harm comes from it. Religious and political fanatics run up against
terrain that does not fit their one inch map, and they seek to impose
their map upon everyone by violence and agony.
Yet, if none had a map, they would simply adapt to the next inch, and
the inch after that, based not on map making, but on experience.
Without a map, they could surf life and know the real thing.
The Universe is far more than we THINK it is. WE are far more than we
can THINK we are. But if we give up thinking, and simply perceive, be
aware, we can know Universe as it is.
And to show I have no problem with the love neighbor principle, etc,
this is what I have observed:
When we perceive reality cleanly, we find that our neighbor, all the
people on the planet, ARE OURSELVES. It's only when it comes from a
conceptual map which has only the meanings the tiny idiot translator
called the 'ego' uses that this becomes a matter of interpretation and
debate.

Another response to the conversation about future human survival.
I think the social evolution of humanity is retarded, not because of inherent 'human nature', because human nature is every way people can be, but because we made a terrible mistake long ago, back at the beginning of the agricultural revolution. The society we live in which has those characteristics you describe came from the division of the world into 'hunter' tribes and 'agricultural' tribes, the hunter tribes following a social paradigm based upon 'winning and losing', male dominance, and 'ownership of nature'.
The agricultural tribes were based upon 'unity and cooperation', equality, and symbiosis with nature. The struggle for consciousness in the world is still pretty much defined by these social determinants, with the whole 'economics/military/nation-turfs' orientation on large scales and 'individuality/property/competition' on individual scales coming from the hunter tribe paradigm.
The agricultural paradigm fits nature more, and provides more real wealth in terms of basics of survival, while the hunter paradigm is mostly so ego diseased, it produces far more psychopaths and destroys nature. While the sane agricultural paradigm is making headway due to science discovering the harm the other paradigm causes, the hunter paradigm holds tight to the illogic of the military and economics, which remains in power worldwide, causing massive harm to the world and to humanity.
I'm not specifically talking about farming people or farming society in the here and now... because the overall social dynamic contains both paradigms, and both are active, with the female population tending to think in the agricultural paradigm and the men thinking in the hunter paradigm. Although science has shown overwhelmingly that the cooperation of species theory provides survival for most of the planet's lifeforms, the idea that competition of species is the evolutionary dynamic is still the dominant concept among most of the planet's population.
Also, the academic subculture is almost completely hunter paradigm dominated, although within academia itself, it is not the prevailing dynamic. The result is that what is taught in schools is institutionalized obedience to academia and the hunter paradigm. This is especially apparent in terms of school taught versions of the history and justification of 'economics' which still teaches that money came from the need for a common trade symbol system.
The ancient mistake that caused this insane social dynamic is the use of violence to enslave humanity in the name of psychopathic selfishness, which led to 'godkings' and the entrenchment of slave control systems like money, organized religion, politics, and the military.
It is important to realize that regardless of what people say or think, they basically follow the agricultural paradigm moment to moment in their daily lives, even while cooperating in the economic and military systems. If economics and the military were the acting paradigm in everyone's lives, we would have nothing but chaos, violence in the streets, torture, and bloodletting everywhere and Humanity would have died out long ago. But the fact is, most people are willingly peaceful, cooperative, and non-selfish most of the time, working together to create a better world for at least them and their families and often giving to larger scale efforts.
The hunter paradigm explains this cooperation of humanity in survival as a product of fear, known as 'the law', and backed by violence and torture. Actually, human survival comes from the cooperation of humanity as a natural response, not as something forced.

Conversation about Human Survival
Ongoing conversation about Human Survival started by Stephen Hawkings at
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/humansurvival
My response to a posted message saying that Humanity was not going to survive even another one hundred years:
What does 'pure happenstance' mean? I don't believe in some all powerful invisible friend creator either, btw. I think it is the belief in a god that creates fear of death in people. Uncertainty also causes fear of death in people. I just don't think it's necessary to torture oneself with uncertainty or belief.
I don't fear death whatsoever. Why bother?
I see so many empty grunts being used in society for undefined concepts, like wild cards in every conversation, and apparently in people's minds. 'Infinite', 'emptiness', and even 'death' seem like just meaningless grunts to me. The fundamental foundations of communicated meaning seem fictional to me, creating meanings out of thin air... no, less than that... purely from imagination.
I see no reason why Humanity shouldn't survive until the Universe becomes cold and dark, or hot and heavy, or whatever happens.
Why? Because nobody can find any 'emptiness' in Universe. Nor can they define 'Infinite' beyond 'more than we can count', yet all the experiments and observations shows limits to everything. At the same time, physics has discovered that what we think is matter, is actually just cohesive energy, and it's everywhere, filling all of space. And so far, it cannot be created nor destroyed. E=MC^ does apparently describe Universe.
What does that mean for each of us? It means that intelligence and awareness are fundamental phenomena of Universe, even if it only occurred on this planet. -which is unlikely. It's probably everywhere it can exist, like fire or rain. It also means that we, as physical systems made up completely from the environment, are not as insular as we thought. We are in no way separate from Universe. We come from it and go to it. So much for 'death'.
Where does an ice cube go when it melts? Should the ice cube be afraid of melting?
Another basic characteristic of energy is that it is always changing. It never stays the same from instant to instant. Since change is therefore a basic of existence, should we be afraid of change?
In complex systems, like Humanity on Planet Earth, how things change is not particularly predictable. But there is more to it than the fragile view takes into account. The past Mass Extinction Events (MEE) were all caused by outside forces or internal planetary forces, not by the behavior of the life system itself. Each time this planetary lifeform was nearly wiped out by an MEE, the evolution of the remaining life went in the direction of more complex organisms.
After six known MEE in our planet's history, we resulted, and we are the most complex evolution so far. Nothing we do comes purely from our minds or are created by us. We discover in Nature a phenomena and exploit it for our own use. We call that 'technology', which is primarily different forms of leverage. The fact that all we do comes from Nature indicates to me that it is very likely our use of technology is part of why we evolved. We have no niche in Nature. I think we are between niches.
I think we evolved to save the planetary life from MEEs and transport the ecology to other star systems so no single MEE can destroy all life. I think we are the reproductive system of the planetary ecology.
Everything in Nature, every species, employs that strategy in it's attempt to survive. It's why species that become too specialized do not tend to survive major changes. Adaptive flexibility seems a requirement for survival.
Yet, we fill our conceptual/social minds with systems, purely in our behavior with each other, that tend to be rigid and specialized. The conflict between the need for flexibility and the rigid concepts/social dynamics is what is causing the harm to the planetary ecosystem. So to survive, we need to think differently.
Will we manage to change our minds and therefor our behavior en mass before accumulated error all catches up with us? That is yet to be seen. I personally think it will, because I think we are far more than what we think we are right now. We are ignorant even of ourselves, and having been a trained killer who is now a pacifist, I know individually we can change our minds quite fast, (if I can, anyone can) and if that is a common experience, that change of mind, we will adapt and survive.
If we give in to cynical thoughts and hold our vision of the world rigid, we will not.
Only time will tell.
(I think I will put this up on my blog. Sometimes the words just flow.)

Some of the Principles of Large Scale Social Slavery.
Partial List of Rules for keeping a population enslaved:
Prime Strategy: To Conquer, Divide, To Keep Conquered, Keep
Divided (Call it 'government', 'corporations', 'special
interests',
'religions', 'nations', 'ethnic groups', 'races',
'economics', and many more) If applied with enough
distracting interrelated synergistic control systems, the
enslaved population can be any size whatsoever. An
effective slave system will be taken for granted by the
slaves,
and their slavery not even noticed.
(Desired Result of Prime Strategy) To cause slaves to
conclude everything is unchangeable and anything they hear
is unbelievable...
Make slaves fear each other and fear cooperating in any way
outside the control systems... Make sure the slaves
intrinsically blame each
other cynically for everything that happens. (Call it 'human
nature' and make sure all believe it of others)
=========================================
The REAL Conspiracy!
There are so many conspiracy theories going around, both on
the 'Net and on every other media in existence. People have
been going so apeshit over conspiracy theories that others
who do not have the fear and passion in their hearts which
feeds the proliferating theories, all conspiracies are
declared bogus and ridiculous.
But of course, most skeptics are just living their lives,
their problems purely personal, the news a virtual
entertainment that is little different than the horror shows
and talk shows, (sometimes indistinguishable from each
other) which also come to our living rooms on TV.
What's real to them is their paycheck producing jobs, then
their families, then their social interaction groups, like
churches, clubs, and suchlike. Everything outside that seems
just another made for TV movie, and of no importance in
their lives.
But are there real conspiracies? Well, when a bunch of
people go behind locked doors and make decisions to
eliminate your job, that would technically be a conspiracy,
and if a military group somewhere made plans to destroy you
and your family, that would certainly be a conspiracy. But
not all conspiracies are to destroy or end something
personal to you... the REAL conspiracy goes back almost
10,000 years, to a deduced incident somewhere on the
Eurasian continent, (Europe, Asia, Middle East) where a
tribe which had settled down to the new technology of
farming was enslaved by a tribe which was still living in
the ancient hunter-gatherer lifestyle. This was the first
time humans enslaved other humans, pretty much domesticating
them using terror, that is, the Hunter-gatherer tribe used
their weapons of hunting to kill and terrorize the
agricultural tribe, who had developed farming tools in place
of hunting tools.
This Hunter-gather tribe gained far more than just the food
and real wealth produced by the agricultural tribe... they
gained a physical leverage which meant they did not have to
hunt anymore, had personal slaves for sex and sadism, had
control of skilled laborers, and all they had to do was
scare the slaves into submission each generation. They
simply invented and applied technologies of control over the
centuries, gathering more slaves all the time, embedding
into culture itself the control structures until they were
considered even by the slaves as necessary and required.
This is the source of our modern world. Social control
algorithms are so totally embedded in everyone's deepest
thoughts until they are not perceivable by the mind as
control algorithms. Look around. Humans need shelter,
food, water, knowledge, love, respect, and something
relevant to do... these exist abundantly in our culture.
But, look at the conceptual overlay of these requirements...
Money, political power (backed by military power),
superficial morality, papers like the 'constitution',
advertising technologies, uniforms, nations, corporations,
agencies, propaganda overload... all of these are control
algorithms, so embedded in our minds that we cannot conceive
of a society without them... the common question I hear when
speaking of these algorithms is 'What would you replace them
with?'... and I have to reply, 'nothing, for they are not
necessary.'
Humans naturally cooperate. We have survived from the very
beginning of our existence, from prehistoric human precursor
species, through cooperation with one another. To be alone
was to die in the wild. It took more than any individual to
survive in pretechnological ages. The cultural algorithms
are not a natural evolution of that cooperation... in fact,
they are threatening our survival more than anything else.
The military is the oldest of subcultures, that is, they
are, as a separate 'cultural system', the direct descendants
of that Hunter-gatherer tribe. In the past, just a few
centuries ago, the 'King' was the top general of the
military, and 'King' is a military title. The King owned
everything in the domain he took by force. The people, the
land, the technology, all the resources, all of it
'belonged' to Him. He was 'divinely' ordained, often called
'GodKing', and his job was to keep and expand that kingdom.
But behind each of these GodKing were those who manipulated
Him, through access to knowledge and resources the King knew
nothing about. Dividing the world up in 'turfs', each with a
petty 'King' in competition with all the other 'Kings', kept
all the centers of power under the control of the background
'Owners' of the planet. The Kings felt safe with this, for
they got to make the 'laws' for their kingdoms, yet they
were not subject to those laws. They were absolute powers in
their kingdoms, even if they suspected that others
manipulated them.
The algorithms over the centuries have become more and more
psychological and symbolic, and less and less violent and
imposed. This was because technology required huge numbers
of slaves to develop it and apply it. The people, families,
behind the figurehead leaders of the world need not use
direct force much anymore. Symbols, backed by psychological
cultural algorithms, have provided more and more wealth in
the terms they value the most... not in controlling every
aspect of people's lives, that gains them little and ups the
ante in the game, but in the production and increasing
access to communication, technology, and peace. War is as
much a threat to them as to
anyone else now, since castles and even underground cities
would not be defense from modern weaponry.
But the algorithms are themselves a huge danger to the
Owners. They are killing the planet's ecosystem, which is
the ultimate source of life itself. This threat is cutting
through the algorithms in millions of people, and causing a
great search for meaning and methods to reverse the
destruction. But other algorithms block those searches, and
lead most people up blind alleys. For the Owners, this puts
them in a terrible place, because if people start seeing
through the social algorithms, they will lose their power
base, but if they squash the social dynamic which is sensing
the algorithms, then those algorithms will likely continue
to destroy the planet...
It is a basic of the 'Owners' subculture that power over
lives is the ultimate wealth, although they have given up
that aspect of power increasingly, allowing the layers of
social control algorithms to maintain control without direct
interaction. They just reap the benefits, while perceiving
the destruction growing at the same time. If they kill off
most of humanity, they will likely lose their benefits as
Owners, but if they just sit back and reap those benefits,
they will likely lose their benefits eventually as the
planetary ecosystem dies. The only choice they have, really,
is to alter the control algorithms or let them go.
Another part of this equation is the realization that the
wealth of the planet, amplified by accelerating technology,
is enough to make every human being on the planet just as
wealthy, in real terms, as they are. The Owners have a
social dynamic that they are superior and deserve everything
they want, exclusively. This subcultural concept is part of
what is causing their indecision, for if everyone in the
world has what they have, they are no longer exclusively
'Owners'. But to survive, they have to give up that
exclusivity, and let humanity break loose from the
algorithms and become free individuals in cooperative
self-chosen efforts.
Humanity is far more than it conceives itself to be, both as
individuals and as a species. The planetary ecosystem is
also far more than humanity conceives it to be. The reality
that we evolved from what we are thinking of as almost inert
and dumb, is contradictory. Our concepts don't commonly see
the world and each other as interactive and unified in real
terms... we cling to seeing each other as non-interactive
and separate, divided by concepts and symbols, and thus we
miss what brings us wealth even as the underlying reality of
our interaction and unity produces it.
Thus, the question becomes: Do we understand that we are
sovereign individuals and not a whit separate, that we
survive together even if our conceptual divisions are
insane, that all our systems; money, politics, religion, all
the social algorithms are threatening to destroy us even as
we must pursue the underlying unity that exists to sustain
us better than anyone now even imagines?
The Universe is understood only through two separate but
associated conceptual systems at once, one starting from the
individual and perceiving through ever greater synergistic
levels of complexity... and the other from the largest
perspective possible, Universe as One, and working it's way
down through all the smaller synergistic systems of ever
increasing complexity.
Perception, without filtering conception, is a clean window.
We each must use it to survive, keeping in mind that there
is no individual survival without the survival of everyone
and our common ecological body, the planet Earth.

Some Other Thoughts:

Worth saying again: If anything can be believed in, why
believe in anything? Why hold on to conceptual fantasies
when we walk around in a world so wondrous and beautiful
that no amount of words, thoughts, or images can fully
describe even a tiny portion of it.

My search for the Truth... (Re: Owners)
Read the message below this message before reading this message. grin. Both are emails to elists I decided I wanted on my blog.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You cannot offend me, so no problem there. Grin. Thanks for posting your thoughts. We need to do more of that if we want the world to survive.
I don't have 'credentials' or anything but my own search for the Truth. I define Truth by what I have determined to have actually happened, not by other people's theories or opinions about the Truth. But even that goes on a scale with 'very probable' at the top and 'very unlikely' at the bottom. I trust only my own senses and my own talents as far as what happened, and that's while knowing that my brain filters my sensory input to some degree.
The story of the Owners did not come from idle speculation. When I was 10 years old, I realized the world could be sterilized by a thermonuclear war. That was obvious to everyone. From that point on, I refused to believe anything I was told, which made life in school pure hell. Being a military dependent, we moved a lot, almost every year, and in each place, the people had different ways of looking at things, assembling the data in their minds, and their opinions were incredibly different although in each place we lived, there was a 'common sense' which held certain basic beliefs and attitudes that marked that place and the way the people lived and talked and acted. This got me very curious about why these differences existed, common to each place we lived, and how were the differences alike in the wider function of thought.
When I graduated, I started a series of experiments to find out what was really going on. I became a Green Beret to study the subculture I was raised in, and after I dropped LSD, which showed me my own basic beliefs and attitudes, giving me a chance to expunge them or alter them or accept them based on experience, I became a real headache to the military and they were very glad to get rid of me. I did as I pleased yet they couldn't bust me, which really shook their tree. I've told the story of what happened during the Great March on Washington, the Moratorium, and how the 82nd Airborne Division refused to go to Washington and kill the protesters. That shook me up big time, since I had no inkling before that experience that there was something larger than purely individual humans and their actions.
After I got out, I traveled extensively and joined many groups to see how they thought. I hitchhiked across the country over and over again, just because when they pick up a hitchhiker who was interested and would listen, (who they would never probably see again,) complete strangers from all walks of life would tell their deepest secrets and attitudes and opinions and life experiences to the strange hippie sitting next to them in the darkness.
I figured out that it was the pattern of beliefs and experiences which created their deepest world models, and then I set out to find out what changed their beliefs and the filtering of their experiences. That's when I realized that social subcultures were larger than any individual yet caused intense changes in each individual's way of looking at the world. So I started studying social subcultures. Remember, beyond my constant obsession with sex, I had a great motivator... I thought the world might well sterilize itself, and I didn't want that to happen. The Universe is too beautiful and intense to just blow away the sensory experience of a planet full of life.
I realized that the social subcultures had to start sometime, there had to be a first time, a first decision by a single person, to create the social subculture which had ballooned out into the world from that time on. SO I started studying pre-history and history, looking for that first time by the absence of it before that first time. Since almost everything I read was biased towards 'western civilization' and those sets of ideas and attitudes, I decided to go by evidence instead of theory, and form my own theories. I spent years studying in libraries and every source of info I could find, using the archaeological artifacts found to base my study on, since the theories and conclusions I found were so incredibly slanted.
Then I realized one day that I was slanting the evidence. I had studied hundreds of thousands of little bits of data, artifacts, locations, etc, but the pattern I was getting was still obviously slanted. (Take two window screens and put them together, one on top of the other, then look through them as you turn one of them. You see patterns, and only when the patterns line up can you see through the screens clearly. That is how I knew I was slanting my conclusions.)
So I decided I had to see the world the way our most ancient ancestors saw it.
I went to the high desert in California, in Owens Valley, and lived in a cave without any technology at all. The experience was profound. I cast out all my previous ideas and tried to live like the nomadic no-tech people we came from. I ate what I could find, bugs mostly, small lizards, mice, etc, without cooking any of it. I wore only a loincloth because if the local ranchers saw a long haired man running naked through the desert and the Alabama Hills, (the place in Owen's Valley I had my cave) they might well shoot me.
After nearly a year, as the winter came on, I left the cave and went down to San Diego. I had learned something very important. I knew I would not survive in the desert alone during a winter. Social cooperation is essential for humans to survive. More eyes for predators, more hands to find food to share, and more brains to figure out problems. Interdependence is a survival trait for us and all life on the planet. (And love is the strongest glue for Interdependence. Love is ubiquitous, although the word is not antiquate to describe the reality.)
I learned how the world looked to the most primitive of peoples. So after that, I started to reintegrate all the data my mind was carrying, and it all pretty much fell into place. It comes down to 'what had to be discovered before the next thing was discovered which led to the next piece of technology which caused what changes in the social structure and interaction in tribes'.
I do not claim that what I told about our origins and the Owners is completely factual. That is, that my exact order of what came first and what came from that is perfect. It is a theory, but not a myth. I cannot list the huge number of artifacts and discoveries about the past that I sifted through, nor quote sources and all that. My talent never worked that way.
I continued to study prehistory, history, and our own culture. I realized that there was a pattern through it all, globally, which was by far the strongest of patterns, which defined our existence in the Human Culture more than anything else but one thing... natural interdependence. Natural interdependence is what keeps us alive, and the other pattern, the pattern that points to 'Owners' is like a thin layer of rust on the surface of something truly beautiful.
When I realized that those with the most resources and control over populations did not just disappear when their civilizations 'ended', I looked for the causes of that ending and what those powerful people did when that civilization ended. They destroyed their environment or used up the resources and then moved. They took it with them. And it was obvious also that they had a technology of social control that was largely not known of by most people, even now. The Farm was part of that discovery process, much like living in the cave. But the Farm, regardless of it's faults, had the most beautiful expression of natural interdependence I could find in the world. I learned a lot from it.
While coping with my deteriorating health, trying to find an income by learning and using computers, begging for money to live on, and all that, I was still searching for what was in the gaps in the patterns. By the time of the Bush Coup, I was sure about the Owners and the way the world would be going... (I was right about Gore winning that election, btw. He did, but it was taken away form him. That was a piece of the pattern that showed me the division between the older and younger generations of Owners.)
It is not a conspiracy. It's older than any conspiracy. Conspiracies think a group of people are trying to take something away from us, our rights, or our wealth, or something... but this is much more than that. We never had anything in the first place. The illusion of rights, wealth, or something was, and is, very tight in people's minds, but it is not real. It's not a new conspiracy, it's business as usual.
I've said in many posts that the Owners have a Tiger By The Tail. Regardless of who they are, how organized they are, if they are organized, or any other factor... the people who make the decisions which define the decisions we have to make, have a tiger by the tail. Less than 1% of the world's people OWN 99+ percent of the world's stuff, land, etc. You can read that in almost any encyclopedia. Bucky Fuller's World Inventory of Resources found that decades ago, 'in the last millennium'... (I love saying that phrase) and it seems to be true.
We have one natural right that cannot be taken from us. It exists in the tightest prisons and in the most totalitarian countries... we can communicate. Humans communicate. It is part of our social instinct and cannot be denied, as the Quakers found out when they built prisons where the criminals were totally alone and unable to communicate. It was a true experiment, although they didn't know it at the time. The prisoners went insane, the ones who did not find some way to communicate.
And communication produces expansion of the mind. It also produces confusion, fusion, doubt, certainty, emotions, and for some, comprehension. It is a principle of science that an experiment is not done until the results are communicated. My life has been an experiment, and I'm communicating. Believe it or not. I don't care about that. I've been on the thin edge of death for too long to worry about other's opinions. I can only speak my own conclusions and fear no man. Do the research yourself if you need proof, for only that way can you actually understand what I wrote. YOU have a head start, simply because of the ideas I have communicated. You can look for affirmation or rejection of those ideas. I started out only with the fact that my elders (the grownups) were insane, all of them, and, BOY, I've been proven right about that! LOL!

LOL!

Where did the Owners come from?
There is a tiny number of people who essentially own everything on the planet.
They own the holding companies who own the banks who own the mortgages who own almost all the property everywhere. Far less than 1% of the world's people owns 99.9% of the world's resources. They run the money game, the political game, the military game, the infrastructure, the manufacturing, and the government, and even instigate control systems, social algorithms, so subtle and silly, you practice them every year, like Christmas, thinking they are merely social celebrations.
Once, they were very hands-on, directly controlling everyone's lives, back when there was only a million or so people on the planet. Now they do it indirectly, making the decisions and having others carry them out. Remember, there was a first time, a first decision, a first action for everything that Humanity has done and is doing. An individual was faced with a crises and the future proceeded from his or her decision as to how to handle that crises. Also, they are not rich. They are beyond rich. They can have anything they want, including life and death, just by asking. They have others, underlings, who handle the money for them when its necessary to use it.
You have never seen nor met one, because their survival is based upon never having their names mentioned, never having a photo shown, never having a newspaper article written about them... They are beyond all our media, and thus we do not know they exist.
They are no group you have ever heard of, none of the groups so often talked about, like the Trilateral Commission, or the Bilginburgers, (sic?)or any of the conspiracy theory targets. But they set those groups up as straw men, to take the karma of the Owner's decisions. And through their employees, they hire our Presidents, run our election shows, and even control much of what you see on TV. They do it through proxy, through hirelings, through those who want to be in the public eye and who will stay bought.
As I said, you don't know them, but they are the people who decide what options you will get to choose from. The rats don't design and build the maze, and they think they have a choice of where to run, but we all know their choices are made by the researcher who did design and build the maze.
This is how I think they came into being, millennia ago. I wrote this for an elist of close friends, but I think it should be considered by everyone. After all, it's our world, regardless of their manipulations.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I want to say a little about the Owners. (a little? ROFL!) I suggest that those who don't want to read something complicated and which you might consider speculation or seemingly irrelevant skip this message. I have to start at the beginning, so it willlll be long winded.
There are two 'philosophies' battling it out in the world now, and which have battled it out for many, many millennia, from a time long before the Agricultural Revolution. The two views are 'Mother' (female) and 'God' (male). I'm not saying that men have one philosophy and women another, but that back in the beginning, the people saw the world as feminine, (where we get the 'Mother Earth' label.) That view was from the fact that Humans didn't survive because of their own efforts... they could easily tell that the environment was the source of their survival and good times and bad came from environmental factors. Since the process of birth and death was the source of their survival, they saw nature as female.
When we evolved, women were the most important gender in the tribe, for the tribe's survival. They were highly valued because you could lose most of the men to predators and the tribe would continue, but if you lost most of the women, the tribe would die out. This factor had evolved Humanity with males having massive upper body strength and women having massive lower body strength. Upper body strength because men would stay and try to bluff predators as the women ran away, escaped, with the children. Losing a male was not considered tribe threatening, although grieved, of course. Losing a woman was a terrible blow to the tribe's survival. Enough were lost through childbirth alone to make surviving women extremely important to tribal (and therefore family) survival. At that time, the females chose the males to lead the tribe, not like a boss, but like a guide, like in Ape tribes. If the women didn't like what the lead male wanted to do, they simply paid attention to another male and that male became the leader. Call it 'instinctive voting' since it wasn't conceptualized. The tribe was always centered around the females.
Later, Hunting technology was discovered. It was primarily a male job, because of that male upper body strength allowed the use of clubs and spears to kill big animals. So the males hunted and the females and children gathered. (Not that the roles were so tightly divided in most tribes, but the distinction was there in every tribe I studied.) The result, socially over eons, was the Hunting Lodge, where the males would plan their hunts. This is the first indication of actual hierarchy. The oldest male, even if he was not currently able to hunt, was valued because he knew the strategies of the hunt better than anyone else. He was the Hunter Lodge Leader, and he carried a lot of social position. The oldest Hunters kept trophies to show his skills to those who came after, to the young brash new hunters who wondered why anyone listened to the old guy. (He killed THAT! OMG!)The expertise of the Hunter Leader meant success or not, and from this came coordination of a group for a specific purpose.
For a long time, supplanting the female leadership, the Hunter Lodge called much of the shots. As time went on, it used intimidation to take over the control of the tribe, making women into 'trophies', which is the basis of all economics and concepts of possession. Nature became the trophy of the Hunter Lodge Leader, because he controlled the hunt, and the hunters devalued the women's perspective and decided that there must be someone 'out there', a male, who looked after the Hunters and the Tribe. This was the basis of the male God figure.
Later, the women, in their gathering of tiny seeds, needed a way to carry them. So they invented baskets. When they put the seeds in, they would leak, and the next time the Tribe came through that area, they found the same plants growing closer to camp, along the trails they had made the year before. Then they started 'giving back' some of the seeds to Mother, finding that when they did, the food grew even closer than before. The soil around long time migration camps was particularly fertile, of course. They were 'manured' by the people who camped there. This process of learning about seeds and such went on for a great many generations.
Eventually, the problem with losing seeds through the baskets was solved by layering the inside with mud. When it dried, it made it leak proof, at least for tiny seeds and berrys, and at some time, a basket caught fire and created the first ceramics. Ceramics was arguably the most important technological discovery in human history, because it allowed farming. By making a pot, covering the top with leather, and burying it, the Tribe could store seed for the winter. This meant more children would survive the lean winter times in areas where going south was not possible. (mountain ranges, deserts, oceans, big rivers, etc) Some of the seed would rot, using up the available oxygen, and the bugs would die.
(It is likely that Leonardo Da Vinci types, on the edge of the Human bell curve of attributes, existed in almost all generations. So the discovery and use of technology probably was not a slow steady thing but a case of sudden discovery and applications by single individuals with new methods and technologies adopted because they were obviously more productive.)
The advantage of agriculture was obvious, and when people started planting seed in the Spring, and getting large crops of food which they could store, the Agricultural Revolution was underway.
Agriculture spread amazingly fast around the world. Tribes gave up hunting as the most important food source, and the Hunter Lodges had to accept the fact that growing food was better than hunting it. Their children were the best evidence they had to that amazing technology. So, in some tribes, the Hunter Lodge settled down. (The Hopi Tribe's Hunter Lodge, for instance, settled down and built Kivas, which no women could enter, but the females own the land and everything else. In the bottom of the Kiva was a ceramic jar with the seed corn for next year's crops.)
Tribes which accepted this huge change in philosophy tend to be peaceful, and not male dominated. Why? Because agriculture is very female based. The seed is pushed into the womb of the Earth, a plant is born, and gives itself up passively to become the people when eaten. The philosophy of the ancient female worldview was essentially proven even to the males.
But somewhere, dunno where, a Hunter Lodge Tribe had enough food and good environmental factors to remain Hunters. They did not accept the Agricultural Female worldview, and with so many tribes now stationary in rich growing lands, their response was to strengthen their Hunter Lodge philosophy and look down on the agricultural tribes as essentially 'prey'. Then, when the climage changed and the winters grew much worse, the Hunter Lodge was faced with major starvation. So their Leader declared that agricultural people were fair game... literally, fair game. Animals that ate grain like the game hunted by the tribes Hunter Lodge. (There has to be a first time for everything, and a single individual who made a decision.) So first they raided the Agro Tribes, then enslaved them. They were Hunters, and remained Hunters, if only in philosophy and definitions. They set up the first two tiered system, Hunters who no longer had to hunt on the top, and Agricultural people on the bottom, supplying them with whatever they wanted.
I will forgo the invention of money and all that. I'm writing a message, not a book. grin. Suffice it to say money came from military script, a way to control slaves.
I think the Owners are the ancient families that first started 'civilization' through enslaving the agricultural tribes, back after the Agricultural Revolution. I think when they destroyed the environment in one place, they moved on and started another civilization elsewhere. Since they had sex all over the place, I daresay most of us are related to them in the same way everyone is related to everyone else. But the identity of the Owners is along lineage, and there are likely far more of them than anyone imagines, although many of those people do not know it even as they reap the benefits of their family connections.
What they learned, back at the beginning when they were first trying to control the first slaves is a technology also, a technology called 'militaries', then 'politics', which included, once it was invented, 'economics'. The military is likely the closest thing to the primitive organization of the original Owners, and it remains the most powerful of all multi-generational subcultures. The technology of control of mass populations was well developed by the time of the Romans, but the fact that the Romans unwittingly poisoned their leadership showed that the brute force, hang a thousand people up on crosses in plain sight, kill every tenth man, etc, was not the best way to control the population. "To conquer, divide. To keep conquered, keep divided."
So many more ways of controlling people was invented and used, which leads to our present situation. We cannot survive the Owner's continuing control. But the only hope we have is to help them see why we cannot survive their Hunter philosophy. We must expand their minds.
